AWS and ISRO Join Forces to Enhance India’s Space Exploration Using Cloud Technology

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has signed a memorandum of understanding with ISRO and IN-SPACE to support space technology innovation through cloud services. The collaboration with ISRO and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe) aims to give space startups, research institutions and students access to cloud technologies through AWS Activate for new space solutions, AWS said in a statement on Wednesday. .

The collaboration follows the government’s approval of India’s Space Policy 2023 in April, which provides a strategic roadmap for the growth and development of India’s space program using cloud computing, data, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Shalini Kapoor, head of AWS India and South Asia and Chief Technology Officer, Public Sector, said the company is committed to helping startups identify use cases and accelerate solution development, as well as building a strong talent pool in India with expertise in cloud and space.

“Thanks to cloud computing-driven innovations, the space industry can make better decisions, faster than the limits of possibilities. We look forward to helping our Indian customers build space technology solutions that improve life on Earth,” Kapoor added. Sudheer Kumar N, Director, Capacity Building and Public Affairs, ISRO, said that cloud computing enables the rapid management of large volumes of raw space data in addition to running AI, ML and analytics workloads to achieve meaningful results in a highly cost-effective manner.

Startups also benefit from access to AWS and its global experience in building aerospace and satellite solutions through the AWS Space Accelerator program. After the landing of Chandrayaan-3 and the Aditya L-1 mission, it is time to harness the unlimited potential of space technology and cloud computing to take the Indian space sector to new heights. This partnership with AWS is a testament to that and we aim to empower startups, students and researchers to dream beyond the sky, drive innovation and advance the global space industry, said IN-SPACe Director, Promotion Directorate, Vinod. Kumar.

The three organizations are also collaborating on a new initiative to train students and teachers in cloud computing, AI, ML, analytics and security using AWS training programs.
